Matt Richter, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Ontario and past MPP candidate for Parry Sound-Muskoka, has officially applied for candidacy in the upcoming election. A nomination contest to select the Ontario Greens candidate for the riding will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Katrine Community Centre.
An elementary teacher in the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, Richter first ran for MPP in Parry Sound-Muskoka in 2007. Richter has steadily grown support for the Green Party since in the region, securing more than 40 percent of the vote in the 2022 election.
In February of this year the Ontario Greens announced Richter had been appointed as Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Ontario.
“Greens’ vision for more caring, connected, climate-ready communities is the antidote to Conservative backroom deals, and I’m looking forward to growing our people-powered movement as we gear up for 2026,” said Richter at the time of the announcement.
The contest will offer Ontario Green Party members in the area an opportunity to vote for their next representative. The Green Party encourages all eligible members to participate.
