Photographers across Muskoka and the surrounding region are invited to showcase their creativity and connection to the landscape as submissions open for the 2026 Michael Foster Photography Contest.
Muskoka Conservancy is seeking images that provide a unique perspective on the natural and cultural elements that define Muskoka, with this year’s theme, “Harmony,” encouraging participants to explore the balance between people, nature and the built environment.
The annual Michael Foster Photography Award is presented to the photographer whose image best represents Muskoka’s natural or built heritage while capturing the beauty and character of the region. Entries may highlight landscapes, wildlife, communities, architecture or moments that reflect harmony within Muskoka’s environment.
The contest honours the legacy of Michael Foster, a professional photographer and artist known for his deep appreciation of Muskoka’s natural beauty and his dedication to conservation. Foster spent decades documenting the region through his photography, helping preserve its visual history and inspiring others to value the landscapes that define Muskoka.
Foster was actively involved with Muskoka Conservancy, an organization committed to protecting the region’s natural spaces. In 2012, he and his spouse, Lola Bratty, donated an ecologically sensitive property to the conservancy, ensuring its protection for future generations — a contribution that continues to reflect Foster’s lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.
The photography contest continues that legacy by encouraging residents and visitors alike to observe Muskoka more closely and share images that celebrate its unique character.
Submissions for the 2026 contest will be accepted until May 8, 2026. Organizers encourage photographers of all experience levels to participate.
Additional details, including submission guidelines and entry information, are available through Muskoka Conservancy.
