Impaired driver crashes nine days after regaining license

Less than two weeks after regaining his license from an impaired driving conviction, a driver crashed his car into a ditch and blew nearly triple the legal limit, a Bracebridge court heard recently.

On Tuesday, Christopher Kay-MacDonald, 29, pleaded guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Court heard that on Jan 14, 2021, Kay-MacDonald was convicted of over 80 mg and sentenced to a one-year driving ban.

On January 23, 2022, at roughly 4:08 am Bracebridge OPP received a call from MTO staff saying they had found a car in a ditch on Highway 400 near the turnoff for Lake Joseph Road.   Upon arrival, police discovered the car in the ditch and the driver, who had been found and was now in the passenger seat of the MTO vehicle.

Kay-MacDonald was visually intoxicated, court heard, slurring his speech and nearly falling over.

Returned to the detachment he blew readings of 231 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

He was ultimately sentenced to 30 days in jail and a two-year driving ban.
