Hit and run driver guilty of refusing breath test

A St. Catherine’s woman was in Bracebridge court recently following a collision on Hwy 11.

Michele Randal, 31, pled guilty to failing to remain at the scene of an accident and refusing a breathalyzer sample.

Court heard that on May 18, 2024, police received a call regarding a vehicle collision on Hwy 11 in Huntsville. The caller said her vehicle had been struck by another motorist in the northbound lanes who then drove on without stopping.

Police caught up with the suspect vehicle and observed damage to the front bumper.

Police pulled over the driver, Randal, who said she was not at fault and was not required to stop. She was given a roadside sobriety test and registered a fail but refused to take a breathalyzer at the Huntsville OPP detachment.

She was sentenced to a $2,500 fine and a one-year driving ban.
