Bracebridge marks 150 years with free community celebration
Mark your calendars for the celebration of a lifetime! Celebrate Bracebridge’s sesquicentennial at the Bracebridge 150 Community Celebration and Showcase taking place Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at J.D. Lang Activity Park. This once-in-a-generation celebration will offer a weekend full of free, family-friendly activities, entertainment, and food that celebrates the heart and heritage of the community.
“This is a celebration for everyone, a chance to reflect on our past, recognize where we are today, and look ahead to the next 150 years,” says Mayor Rick Maloney. “Bracebridge has always been defined by its people, and this event is all about bringing them together.”
From engaging exhibits and creative workshops to classic games and animal encounters, the celebration is packed with activities that showcase the vibrancy of the town and its many contributors. Families can take part in a community scavenger hunt, create keepsakes at the friendship bracelet craft station, enjoy live chainsaw carving, and get hands-on with vehicles at the always-popular Touch-a-Truck display.
The weekend also features special appearances by Maple Lane Farms, Muskoka Goat Away, and Zoo-To-You, giving children and adults alike the chance to interact with animals, always a fan favourite.
The Community Showcase will highlight local organizations, artists, and authors, with live readings hosted by the Muskoka Authors Association and informative booths that tell the stories of Bracebridge’s community, history and growth.
Adding to the festivities is a lively Community Picnic, inviting attendees to bring a blanket, grab a bite, and enjoy a meal in the company of friends and neighbours. A variety of food vendors will be on-site throughout the weekend, including local favourites like The Fryer Truck, Sugar Nuts Mini Donuts, The Banger, Screamy’s Ice Cream, BeaverTails, and Halibut House. Plus, the Lions Club of Bracebridge will be behind the grill serving bbq favourites. From savoury to sweet, there’s something to satisfy every craving.
Guests can also enjoy the atmosphere in the on-site beer garden, hosted by Bracebridge Hall.
Live entertainment will run all weekend long on two stages, featuring a wide range of performers from folk and rock to jazz and family acts. The diverse music lineup reflects the community’s creativity and energy and includes performances from beloved local artists and emerging talents.
“This is more than just a party, it’s a showcase of who we are,” says Mayor Maloney. “Bracebridge is a place where people care, where they create, and where they come together to build something bigger. That’s exactly what this weekend is all about.”
Admission is free, and all are welcome. For full event details, schedules, and updates, visit bracebridge.ca/150.
