Bala Man Arrested for Impaired After Failing Roadside Test

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated four unrelated driving incidents between February 28 and March 2, resulting in both impaired‑ and prohibition‑related charges.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 12 in the Township of Tay on March 2, 2026 at approximately 1:15 p.m. after observing a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted signs of alcohol impairment. A roadside screening device test was administered, registering a “Fail.” The driver was arrested and transported to detachment. Open alcohol was located inside the vehicle.

Zack ZUMMACH, 33 years, of Bala faces the following charges:

Dangerous Driving
Drive Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor

In a separate impaired investigation, officers conducting a RIDE spot check on Vindin Street in Midland on February 28, 2026 at approximately 3:30 a.m. spoke with a driver believed to be under the influence of alcohol. A roadside test was administered, resulting in a “Fail.” The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Ryan MOORE, 24 years, of Penetanguishene faces the following charges:

During a patrol in Penetanguishene on February 28, 2026 at approximately 12:30 p.m., an officer received an ALPR alert for a vehicle travelling on Fuller Avenue. The driver was confirmed to be prohibited under the Criminal Code. The driver was arrested and released at the scene, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Joseph JURMAIN, 73 years, of Penetanguishene

Operation While Prohibited

On March 1, 2026 at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on County Road 6 in the Township of Tiny. Officers learned that the driver was prohibited under the Criminal Code and was additionally committing Highway Traffic Act offences. The driver was arrested and released at the scene, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

All the accused individuals in these occurrences were released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on April 9, 2026.
