Despite a strong end to their inaugural regular season in Jr. C, The Muskoka Bears were dropped in the first round of the playoffs by the Alliston Hornets.
The Bears had a tough draw in their opening series, after finishing last in the division and having to face Alliston, who didn’t lose a single game all year in regulation time.
The Bears were ultimately swept in the first round by the Hornets, beaten by six or more goals in each of the games.
Nonetheless, the series marked the end of an exciting year for the young players and the community of Bracebridge.
The Bears first season of action corresponded with the opening of the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre earlier this year, and the town came out in droves to show their support.
According to the organization, more than 10,000 fans came to the “Lumber Yard” throughout the season to show their support for the upstart squad.
The team ultimately finished with a record of 6 wins and 34 losses, but several of those wins came during the final weeks of play, a promising sign for next season.
No doubt the highlight of the season was pulling off a stunning 5-4 shootout win over undefeated Alliston in January.
The top goal scorer for the season was Jacob Budney, who racked up 15 tallies. The top assist man was Noah Racine, who led the way with 14.
