Bracebridge comedian nominated for Canadian Screen Award

A Muskoka comedian finds himself in rarified air with a nomination for a 2024 Canadian Screen Award.

Bracebridge’s Tyler Morrison was recently announced as a nominee for Best Performance, Sketch Comedy, Individual or Ensemble for his performances on Roast Battle Canada. Morrison is nominated along with fellow Roast Battle regulars Ennis Esmer, Russell Peters, Sabrina Jalees, K. Trevor Wilson, Allie Pearse, Brendan D’Souza and Crystal Ferrier.

“If you know me you know what it took to get here and where it’s about to go,” said Morrison via social media. “Thanks to every comic who had my back and helped push to get me on the show and to my season 3 opponents Crystal Ferrier & Jordan Welwood…it’s pretty cool to be recognized for writing and telling roast jokes!”

Coming off its third season, Roast Battle Canada presents battles in which pairs of comedians take turns roasting each other on stage, before a panel of judges who decide the winner of each battle.

The show has previously been nominated twice for Screen Awards in the same category but this is Morrison’s first nomination.

The Canadian Academy produces the Canadian Screen Awards, bringing together the screen-based industry annually to celebrate the country’s top talent in the film, television and digital sectors at Canadian Screen Week. The awards will be handed out May 31 in Toronto.
