Here are some items of interest from the most recent Bracebridge council meeting:
The Bracebridge Public Library reports growth across the board, with the exception of wireless internet usage, which is down. The board reports this is likely due to better spring weather leading to users pursuing different activities.
The Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce says they are closer to filling one of two staff vacancies which became available earlier this year. They also report summer operations at the visitor’s centre continue to proceed smoothly.
Coun. Barb McMurray reports that Canada Day celebrations in Vankoughnet were successful, and the minnow races were a big hit. She reports a gazebo is also on order for the Vankougnet Village Square to help address rain.
The District of Muskoka reports that flood control erosion measures are on the way for Fraserburg Road. Part of the construction process will include a special turtle mitigation plan, “above and beyond anything we’ve seen on roadwork from the District,” said District Coun. Brenda Rhodes. She said the District may utilize this new turtle plan on other roadworks.
She also said waste management data coming from the District indicates Muskoka is 46th in the province at waste diversion.
“We need to do a better job,” said Rhodes. She indicated there was a plan forthcoming to help tackle the issue.
Coun. Barry Hammond indicated that in Monck/Muskoka Ward they are still fielding questions regarding the reconstruction of Sanat’s Village Road. He said it’s a slow process but they are eliminating some of the questions and concerns.
