Car in Huntsville ditch turns out to be stolen

An Orillia man went from the passenger seat to the hot seat after police determined the car he was in had been stolen.

Devon Demaine, 30, recently appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom to plead guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle.

Court heard that on March 20, 2024, at roughly 2 pm Huntsville OPP received a call about a vehicle in a ditch on Yonge Street. The caller reported that the vehicle had been there for several hours.

When police arrived they found Demaine in the passenger seat of the car, which was determined to have been stolen, and suspected he was under the influence of substances, court heard.

He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and taken into custody.

He was sentenced to 13 days in jail, which had already been served in pre-trial custody.
