Car in the ditch ends with impaired conviction

A Bracebridge man who crashed his car into a ditch after drinking pleaded guilty in court recently.

Appearing in a Bracebridge courtroom Pedro Gil Alfau, 59, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.

According to an OPP report, on Aug. 8, 2024, at 7:45 p.m. police and Muskoka EMS responded to several 9-1-1 calls from members of the public reporting that a vehicle had left the roadway and landed in the ditch on Highway 118 East just west of Matthiasville Road in Bracebridge. 

Officers found Gil Alfau standing beside a car in the ditch and determined he was the driver.

Police believed he was impaired and breath samples came back with 220 mg of alcohol, more than double the legal limit.

Gil Alfau was sentenced to a one-year driving ban and a $2,250 fine.
