A Bracebridge man was in court last week after being caught on camera taking part in a break and enter at a local home.
On Tuesday, Richard Townsend, 46, pleaded guilty to break and enter, and theft.
Court heard that on March 5, 2020, the OPP were called to a residence in Bracebridge by homeowners who had their house broken into. The victims said they had been away from home when the break and enter occurred but the entire incident had been captured on CCTV.
The video showed Townsend and another man arriving at the house in Townsend’s pickup truck. Court heard that the other man used a pry bar to force entry into the home and stole a safe containing passports, foreign currency and personal documents.
Townsend was subsequently identified by his image and license plate on CCTV.
The defense attorney stated Townsend did not actually enter the home but admitted he was still culpable in the crime.
Sentencing was postponed to a later date.
