Charges laid in collision that caused Muskoka man’s death

An 83-year-old Huntsville man has succumbed to his injuries following a collision on Saturday, August 19 around 12:30 p.m. in the Township of South Algonquin. Police have charged a 43-year-old driver from Rome, Italy with careless driving causing death.

According to Killaloe OPP, just after noon on August 19, police, fire, and paramedic crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Hwy 127, north of McKenzie Lake Road. Several people including a 10-year-old child were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the OPP, the driver of the SUV going northbound veered into the oncoming lane resulting in a head-on collision with the driver of the second SUV that was travelling southbound.

The 83-year-old driver from Huntsville was initially taken to a local hospital and then airlifted by ORNG to another hospital. The OPP was notified several days later that the driver had died.

Police have charged a 43-year-old driver from Rome, Italy with careless driving causing death.

The names of the parties have not been released.
