Community Invited to Gravenhurst Health Hub Update Session

Residents will have an opportunity to hear updates and provide input on the Gravenhurst Health Hub project at a public town hall later this month.

The event will be held on Thursday, July 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gravenhurst Opera House and is free to attend. It is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst in partnership with project organizers.

The Gravenhurst Health Hub initiative is an effort to expand and modernize local health services by creating a more integrated, community-based model of care. The hub is intended to bring together a range of services under one coordinated system, helping improve access to primary care, reduce fragmentation between providers, and make it easier for residents to navigate the health system locally.

Organizers Dr. Keith Cross and Lorraine Johnstone of the Cottage Country Family Health Team (CCFHT) say the project has made strong progress over the past year, with more than $1.2 million raised for infrastructure improvements. That funding has allowed work on Phase 1 to advance significantly, with planning and fundraising now continuing for Phases 2 and 3.

While specific build-out details for each phase have not been fully finalized publicly, the Health Hub concept is generally focused on strengthening community-based care. This includes improving access to family medicine and primary care services, expanding support for chronic disease management, and better integrating allied health services such as nursing, mental health support, and preventative care programs. The long-term goal is to reduce pressure on hospitals and emergency departments by ensuring more care can be delivered locally and proactively.

The invitation has been shared through the Muskoka Almaguin Ontario Health Team (MAOHT), a regional collaboration of 14 health and social service providers working to better integrate care across Muskoka and surrounding areas. The MAOHT model supports coordination between hospitals, primary care teams, long-term care, and community services, with initiatives aimed at improving access, recruitment of healthcare providers, and reducing wait times.
