Summer has turned to fall, and during the first five days of the new season, Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged their fourth driver with impaired driving related offenses.
On September 26, 2024 at 8:40 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to concerns from a member of the public about a vehicle traveling on Highway 11 North that exited at Highway 118 in Bracebridge. Officers patrolled extensively and located the vehicle on Ecclestone Drive in Bracebridge and conducted a traffic stop. Shortly after engaging with the driver, officers arrested and charged 57-year-old Lisa YOUNG of Bracebridge with Refusal to Comply with Breath Demand CC 320.15(1). She will appear in the Ontario court of Justice in Bracebridge on November 12, 2024 to answer to her charge.
Police officers in Ontario have the authority to demand a sample of any driver’s breath if they are operating a vehicle on any highway. Failing to comply with that breath demand is a criminal offense and the accused also suffers an immediate 90-day drivers license suspension.
Members of the public are important partners in keeping Muskoka’s roads and waterways safe, if you suspect that someone is operating a vehicle or vessel while impaired, please call 9-1-1 from your hands-free device.
