Crack pipes and oxycodone found in Bracebridge traffic stop

A Bracebridge driver who sat idling in an intersection for 20 minutes, recently pled guilty to impaired driving and other offences in court.

Appearing virtually in a Bracebridge courtroom, Justin D’Andrea, 36, pled guilty to operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, possession of oxycodone and failing to surrender insurance.

Police reported that at 2:20 a.m. on April 22, they responded to a complaint from a member of the public about a vehicle that was stopped at an intersection near Balls Drive in Bracebridge for an extended period of time causing the caller to be concerned. Police arrived and located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot at which time it sped away.

Police were able to conduct a vehicle stop on Manitoba Street and inside they found crack pipes, and oxycodone on D’ Andrea, who was driving the vehicle and appeared to be impaired.

The vehicle was also missing a bumper, and appeared to have been in a recent collision, court heard.

D’Andrea was ultimately given a suspended sentence and placed under probation for 12 months, as well as being prohibited from driving for one year and fined $1,265.
