Cutting Brothers Support RMS Segwun with $10,000 donation

The RMS Segwun, Canada’s Living Legend is undergoing a $2.5 Million restoration and modernization and the  Muskoka Steamship and Discovery Centre (MSDC) is excited to announce that Cutting Bros. Inc. of Port Carling has  donated $10,000 towards the project. The campaign is called Come Aboard and the objective is to get 1000+  businesses and individuals to join in.

Lawrence Cutting said “Segwun is the icon of Muskoka and we are so pleased to support her continued sailing for  decades. Our craftsmen have been working with pride for months at replacing the critical wood infrastructure, outside  covering and inside finishes to ensure she sails for another 30 plus years so it just very natural for our company to  make a donation. And we want to challenge all the builders in Muskoka to make their donation today to support our  wonderful Muskoka flag ship”.

John Miller, President of Muskoka Steamships and Discovery Centre said “The leadership shown by Cutting Bros.  Inc. is exemplary and so very much appreciated. The restoration work is extensive and therefore expensive so  support from our suppliers is very important”.

Funding a large not-for-profit project in Muskoka involves many partnerships. Both the Federal government through  FedNor and the Ontario Provincial government through the Northern Ontario Heritage Foundation have supported  this project. Twelve generous community members led by Honourary Captain Bruce Mitchell donated $950,000 to  make it a public/private undertaking and enabled the completion phase of the campaign. MSDC officially launched a  campaign today with the supplier partners to help reach the finish line. Pam Bartlett from MSDC who is coordinating the donations said “There is a lot of enthusiasm amongst our suppliers  because they know how important the RMS Segwun is to the local community so I know I am going to be busy”
