The Muskoka Discovery Centre (MDC) is honoured to host an inspiring series of events amplifying Indigenous voices and lived experiences. From September 25 to October 1, the Indigenous Speaker Series: Stories of Resilience, Identity, and Truth will bring together storytellers, artists, and authors who share journeys of healing, advocacy, and reconnection.
This profound series invites the community to listen, reflect, and learn:
- Thursday, September 25 at 7:30 PM – Vanessa Brousseau shares her journey of reclaiming identity and advocating for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirit people (MMIWG2S), interwoven with the legacy of residential schools.
- Friday, September 26 at 7:30 PM – Chelsey June, award-winning musician and half of the celebrated duo Twin Flames, invites audiences to an intimate evening of music and storytelling about reinvention, resilience, and healing.
- Sunday, September 28 at 1:00 PM & 4:00 PM – Lynda Nicholson (Partridge) presents two sessions: one designed for youth and another focused on the Sixties Scoop. Both sessions highlight her powerful journey of reconnection and resilience.
- Wednesday, October 1 at 6:30 PM – Jack Payette closes the series with a discussion of his debut novel Nitam and insight into his current literary work.
“This series is about honouring truth and creating space for Indigenous voices to be heard,” says Wendy Fairbairn, General Manager Muskoka Discovery Centre. “We invite the community to join us in reflection, learning, and connection.”
