Dispute leads to weapons charges in Muskoka Lakes Twp

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with weapons related offenses after responding to a dispute in Muskoka Lakes Township.

On Monday November 18, 2024, just after 7:00 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a dispute at an address on Doherty Road in Muskoka Lakes Township, during which one person had allegedly been assaulted. Upon arrival, officers learned that the responsible party had gone to an outbuilding and had made reference to a firearm which caused the family to be concerned about his well-being.

With the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), the 48-year-old Muskoka Lakes Township man was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault CC 266
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm CC 91(1)
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition CC 86(1) X 2

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on December 17, 2024 to answer to his charges.
