District councillors advised of injuries following tent fire

District Municipality of Muskoka Councillors were advised last week via email correspondence that the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department was dispatched to a reported tent fire in Huntsville on the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The individual living in the tent suffered burns and/or injuries and was transported to a local hospital, and then to a Toronto hospital.

According to the letter obtained by Doppler, District staff attended the local hospital, where they spoke with the individual and provided them with clothing and charging cables for electronic devices, at the individual’s and the hospital social worker’s request.

“District staff are aware of this individual and have supported them in the past through the Homelessness Prevention Program, however have not had any interactions with them since the summer, at the individual’s request.  At this time, staff understand the individual is stable,” notes the email, which also instructs councillors on what to do if contacted by media.

“District staff will meet with the Fire Department to discuss how to assist other members of the community living in similar circumstances to be safe from fire,” it adds.

“This is a sad situation that we will continue to monitor.”

Doppler has reached out to the District for further information.
