With work on the Bay and Beyond project in Gravenhurst set to begin next month, the District is finalizing another piece of the puzzle.
On Wednesday, the District of Muskoka Engineering and Public Works Committee will vote on whether to award a $9.9 million contract for the project to Schomberg-based Trisan Construction. Of that contract, roughly $8.69 million will be paid by the District and $1.24 million by the Town of Gravenhurst.
Bay and Beyond is a three-stage water, sewer, stormwater and roadway reconstruction project on Muskoka Road 169 in Gravenhurst. The primary driver of the project was the replacement of the water and wastewater pipes, which date back as far as 1944.
The 1.9 km section of 169 set for construction is located between Steamship Bay Road and Gull Lake Park. The contract is a planned two-year project covering stages one and two of the three-phase project.
The contract is scheduled to start May 21, 2024, with substantial completion in the fall of 2026.
The initial tender included all three stages of the project, however, staff said given the complexities associated with work under the CN Tracks in Stage 3 and the length of time until Stage 3 begins, the District will issue a subsequent tender for Stage 3. Stage 3 is currently scheduled to begin in 2026 and includes the section of 169 from Muskoka Road 18 (approximately 80 metres west of John St) to Gull Lake Park.
The budget for the entire project is pegged at $14.6 million. That’s an increase of $5.2 or 36%. According to District staff, most of the variance is due to District work at approximately $3.4 million ($900,000 for sewer, $1 million for water and $1.5 million for roads).
