A driver who left the scene of an accident in Huntsville was handed fines and a driving ban in a Bracebridge court last week.
Appearing from jail in Hamilton on unrelated charges, Malcolm Davis pleaded guilty to careless driving and failing to stop for an accident.
Court heard that on August 31, 2020 Huntsville OPP were contacted by a man who said he had been involved in an accident on Highway 11 near Lindgren Road. When police arrived, the victim explained that he was driving along the highway when he saw a car approach him at a rapid pace from behind. The car then rammed into the back of his car.
The victim said two men got out of the car, leaving it in the middle of the highway, leaking fluid. One of the men began vomiting into the ditch before both men left the scene, despite the victim asking them to remain.
The police were unable to locate the men at first but later found them at a nearby home waiting for a cab.
The court heard that Davis has a record and is currently in jail facing unrelated charges.
He was sentenced to a $1,000 fine, $1,000 in restitution and banned from driving for one year.
