A local man will pay a hefty fine after pleading guilty to pair of impaired driving-related convictions.
Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Edward Cooper, 45, pled guilty to two counts of driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and one count of mischief.
Court heard that on May 27, 2023 at 3:44 pm police received a call regarding a motor vehicle collision. The accident took place west of Dwight Beach Road on Hwy 60 and resulted in a boat trailer in the middle of the road.
Court heard an SUV with a trailer hit a guard rail and ended up blocking both lanes. The driver, Cooper had just purchased the boat and OPP suspected he was driving under the influence.
He ultimately blew readings of 215 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
Then, in September, the OPP received multiple complaints about a potentially impaired driver on Hwy 400. The police pulled Cooper over and he blew readings of 190 mg of alcohol. Inside the cruiser, Cooper began screaming obscenities and kicking the inside of the cruiser.
Cooper was ultimately sentenced to a $3,000 fine, 12 months probation and a three-year driving ban.
