A smuggling mission backfired for a local correctional facility inmate, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Jason Jacques, 23, recently pled guilty to possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution.
Court heard that on March 17, 2024, staff at Beaver Creek saw a drone flying overhead and suspected it was involved in a contraband drop. They continued to investigate and later searched Jacques’ cell. Inside they found a cell phone, rolling papers, a phone charger, 450 g of cannabis and 25. 3 g of tobacco. Staff pegged the value of the contraband at $3,800.
Court heard it was the second time Jacques had been caught smuggling drugs into the institution.
He was sentenced to serve an additional five months in jail on top of the sentence he is already serving.
