Responses to Simple Suit Overcall
OVERCALL is a concept we have talked about in the past. It is worth a review here.
A Simple Suit OVERCALL is a suit bid by your side after your opponent opens. The Overcall is bid by your side immediately by second seat or, after two passes, by fourth seat. The Overcall is used to get your side into the bidding.
The Overcall must be a good suit and a hand of 10+ value with most of the points in the good suit (e.g. at least AQxxx). The Overcall is usually weak because, after all, your opponent has opened.
Guideline One: Either partner may make an Overcall to opponent’s opener.
Guideline Two: The Overcall must be a good suit.
Guideline Three: With the Overcall, your partner is giving you an opportunity to get into the bidding.
Guideline Four: With the Overcall, your partner is giving you lead direction for when you are on lead.
