You are here: Home / Events / Huntsville/Port Sydney Canada Day Celebrations

This calendar is reserved for non-commercial local community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit. (We do make exceptions for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at matt.driscoll@doppleronline.ca to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we will approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Muskoka a vibrant community!

On Huntsville’s 2018 theme “Good Government: It Takes a Village”, Huntsville’s Canada Day community celebration will take place in the pioneer village at Muskoka Heritage Place, 88 Brunel Road, on Sunday July 1, 2018.

At 8 am, the Huntsville Lions Club hosts a breakfast overlooking Cann Lake, at 88 Brunel Road.

For this day only, the gates to Muskoka Heritage Place, Village and Museum entrance, will open at 9 am. Admission is free to the Canada Day celebrations, until 11 am.

At 10 am on the Village Green at Muskoka Heritage Place, dignitaries, guests and residents will be welcomed by ‘Captain George Hunt’. Following a Land Acknowledgement statement, greetings will be shared from Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison, Parry-Sound Muskoka Member of Parliament, the honourable Tony Clement, and Parry-Sound Muskoka Member of Provincial Parliament, Norm Miller.

Following the official greetings and the singing of our national anthem, ‘O Canada’, led by wandering minstrel Glen Reid, Huntsville Council will serve a strawberry and cream scone birthday cake, while supplies last.

Guests are welcome to enjoy all that Muskoka Heritage Place has to offer. After 11 am, regular admission and train rates apply. Muskoka Heritage Place is open to 4 pm, with the last train leaving the Rotary Village Station, 100 Forbes Hill Drive, at 3 pm. July 1 is slated as steam up day, with the first steam train runs of the 2018 season.  For information, check www.muskokaheritageplace.org .

Music on the Town Hall steps, 37 Main Street East, will be provided by the Downtown Huntsville Business Improvement Area starting at 11 am, www.downtownhuntsvilleadventures.ca . At noon, the Royal Canadian Huntsville Legion Branch 232, 22 Veterans Way, will host a barbeque.

The Port Sydney Parks and Recreation Group is hosting events starting at 10 am at Port Sydney beach, information at www.portsydneycoc.com .

July 1 celebrations in Huntsville will end with a fireworks display over Hunters Bay starting at 10 pm. The fireworks are musically-synchronized with a radio broadcast by The Moose 105.5 FM.

For a complete updated listing of Huntsville’s Canada Day 2018 Celebrations, visit www.huntsville.ca . In case of rain, speeches and cake will moved to the Algonquin Theatre/Civic Centre at 37 Main Street East starting at 10 am. Updates will be posted on Huntsville’s facebook and twitter accounts on Sunday July 1, 2018 at 7 am.
