This calendar is reserved for non-commercial local community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit. (We do make exceptions for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at [email protected] to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we will approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Muskoka a vibrant community!
John Prine is widely cited as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. Essentially creating the “Americana” & “Roots” genres of music with his mixture of Country, contemporary & Folk music. The 4-time Grammy Award winner & Lifetime achievement recipient was known for humorous lyrics about love, life, and current events, as well as his serious songs with social commentary and songs that recollect sometimes melancholy tales from his life.
We celebrate & elaborate on the beautiful songs of one of the finest songwriters of our generation. “In Spite of Ourselves” brings together some fine Canadian songwriters & friends of various genres, to enjoy stories and songs about the fabulous John Prine. Bringing along the audiences and having them join in the fun with stories and song. Join Blair Packham (The Jitters), Bill Craig ( The Irish Rovers) Kirsten Jones & 2 X JUNO nominee Johnny Max, as they perform and present their favourite and quirky John Prine songs.
