Muskoka Authors Association presents: FADE IN: The Art of Screenwriting (and the Bitterness of Writing One) A Screenwriting Workshop with Geordie Sabbagh

What does it really take to turn a story into a screenplay—and survive the process with your creative soul intact?
Muskoka Authors Association is thrilled to welcome filmmaker and screenwriter Geordie Sabbagh for an engaging, candid, and darkly funny workshop on the art, craft, and emotional reality of screenwriting on Saturday, January 31, Bracebridge Public Library, 34 Salmon Road, Bracebridge, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm.
FADE IN: The Art of Screenwriting (and the Bitterness of Writing One) pulls back the curtain on one of the most alluring—and misunderstood—forms of storytelling. Blending iconic industry wisdom with hard-earned personal insight, this workshop explores what it truly means to write for the screen, where creative passion meets brutal odds, endless rewrites, and the relentless pursuit of story clarity.
Equal parts reality check and love letter, this session is designed for novelists, short-story writers, memoirists, and aspiring screenwriters who are curious about adapting their work—or starting fresh—for film and television.
And yes… if you’ve ever secretly wondered whether your story could be the next Oscar-worthy masterpiece, this might just be your first step.
Geordie Sabbagh is a filmmaker and screenwriter known for his sharp storytelling, candid perspective, and deep respect for the creative process. With a career that spans writing, filmmaking, and performance, Geordie brings a rare blend of industry knowledge, humour, and hard truth to his work with writers.
Described (only half-jokingly) as “just four awards away from an EGOT,” Geordie understands both the allure and the absurdity of creative ambition—and shares insights that are as practical as they are entertaining.
