This calendar is reserved for non-commercial local community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit. (We do make exceptions for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at [email protected] to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we will approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Muskoka a vibrant community!
The concert, titled We Remember, features music of Remembrance that honours the people who have served in our military helping to protect the freedom of all Canadians. The music has an international flavour and ranges from British composer Kenneth Alford’s well-known nautical march On the Quarterdeck, to Sammy Nestico’s lush arrangement of Loch Lomond, and the hauntingly beautiful On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss, which is based on the hymn “It is Well With My Soul”. We round out the program with American Salute, a theme and variation on “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, John Williams’ unforgettable Hymn to the Fallen from the film “Saving Private Ryan” and some of the popular music of World War II in Duke Ellington in Concert.
