This calendar is reserved for non-commercial local community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit. (We do make exceptions for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at [email protected] to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we will approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Muskoka a vibrant community!
The Muskoka Concert Band is welcoming spring this year with “Here Comes the Sun!”, our annual spring concert on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Trinity United Church in Gravenhurst at 2:00 pm.
The band will feature a variety of music that is sure to delight. You’ll hear several pieces with a spring theme to them including an overture called “Acclamations” by the acclaimed American composer Ed Huckeby and two selections that remind us of the beauty of spring in Muskoka – “Incandescent Sky”, a brand new work by Robert Sheldon, and the hauntingly beautiful “In a Gentle Rain” by Robert W. Smith.
Trumpeter Neil Barlow will be featured on the theme from the Concierto De Aranjuez and, for our big band fans, our principal clarinetist, Kim Barlow, will get your toes tapping with an exciting “Tribute to Artie Shaw”. We’ll round out the program with some musical gems from Carmen and some of the most popular songs from the ‘60s and ‘70s from the musical “Jersey Boys” that tell the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. You might even hear a little music from the Beatles!
Tickets are $20 (children 12 and under are free) and are available in advance through Eventbrite (credit) or via our website at www.muskokaconcertband.ca or at the door (cash only).
