Orillia Silver Band
Sunday, October 15, 2023
Doors open at 1:30 PM; Show begins at 2:00 PM
Tickets: $37.00 plus applicable fees & taxes
The Orillia Silver Band invites you to an Autumn Leaves Concert. The concert opens with Franz von Suppe’s classic Light Cavalry Overture, a perennial favourite from the era of 19th Century Viennese salon music. The programme continues with the haunting Pavane by Gabriel Faure. A crowd-pleasing Beethoven work is on the program with the first movement of his Symphony No.1. And a delightful collection of Latin-style music is included with Las Lluvias Grandes by Peter Graham. Recently, Canada has lost one of its bright lights on the popular music scene – Gordon Lightfoot. As a tribute to this wonderful musician, the band will play Lightfoot’s Railroad Trilogy in a beautiful arrangement commissioned by the band from composer Robert Redhead. Also included in the program is a stirring selection of music by Canadian composer Howard Shore written as the soundtrack for the Lord of the Rings movie series. And for those listeners who are particularly fond of folk dance, Hardiman’s wonderful Celtic-flavoured Lord of the Dance will be on offer.
“Please join us for a very enjoyable afternoon of music”, says Neil Barlow, the band’s Music Director and Conductor. “You will be delighted!”
