This calendar is reserved for non-commercial local community events. What does that mean? Your event must be free or of nominal cost, available to anyone (although adult-only events are fine), and not for profit. (We do make exceptions for artists showing their work who would profit from any sales made and musicians hosting small-scale concerts). Not sure if your event fits? Drop us a line at matt.driscoll@doppleronline.ca to check, or go ahead and submit anyhow – submissions are moderated and we will approve yours if it fits our criteria. Thanks for helping make Muskoka a vibrant community!

Two Visions : One Muskoka is an art exhibition featuring photographer Rob Stimpson and painter Robert Cathcart
Artists’ Reception: Saturday, August 18, 1pm – 5pm
Show duration: Saturday, August 18 – Friday, August 24
Free admission
Two exceptionally talented artists express their love of Muskoka through their chosen medias. Robert Cathcart’s paintings were inspired by the photographs taken by his friend, and internationally renowned photographer, Rob Stimpson. These paintings and photographs of Muskoka and Algonquin Park will be displayed together in this exclusive exhibition.
Rob Stimpson is an internationally published and award-winning tourism photographer, best known for capturing the fury and tenderness of the Canadian outdoors. He has photographed for Ontario Tourism, Ontario Parks and Parks Canada for many years and has garnered numerous provincial and national awards. In 2012, Stimpson was accepted into the College of Fellows in The Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
Robert Cathcart had many successful decades as a graphic designer in the advertising world. He left the industry in 2010 to pursue his passion for painting. A self-taught oil painter, he uses broad brush strokes and vibrant colours to capture his vision in its most simplistic form. Cathcart’s inspiration comes from the Canadian landscape and its natural creations of colours, shapes and textures.
“With Rob and Robert, we have two exceptionally talented creatives at the top of their two distinctly different medias,” says gallery owner Karen Piovaty. “This show is going to be a Muskoka-loving wonder to behold.”
The Artists’ Reception is Saturday, August 18, 1 pm – 5 pm; the show will be on display through Friday, August 24.
