Facetime threats lead to drug bust

A Huntsville man was in front of a judge in Bracebridge this week to answer for threatening to kill another man and drug possession.

On Wednesday, Erik Zingel, 31, was sentenced after previously having pled guilty to several charges including threatening death and drug possession.

Court heard Zingel was upset that a friend of the victim had contacted Zingel’s girlfriend. He told the victim over the phone that he was going to kill him and later texted the victim and said he had until the end of the day to write back. The victim said he didn’t understand what that meant and Zingel replied with, “I’ll show you.” He then sent the victim a Facetime video. In it, he brandished what the victim believed to be a loaded handgun and said he wanted money or else he would kill the victim.

The victim contacted police and a search warrant was obtained for Zingel’s residence. Inside they found what turned out to be a starter pistol, along with 12.8 g of MDMA and 731g of psilocybin mushrooms.

Zingel was sentenced to nine months of house arrest, four months under curfew and 12 months probation.
