Fine Films eye return to the Opera House

During the most recent Gravenhurst Committee of the Whole meeting Pam McDivitt and Candis Jones of Fine Films in Gravenhurst spoke to council about returning to the Opera House now that Peter’s Players is no longer an option.

The group has over 300 members and brings in festival-quality films and sometimes guest directors. The organization is a non-profit and would like to “create more of a community service.”

McDivitt said that the opera house costs were prohibitive and requested a reduction, in particular on rental fees and having to pay to use the box office instead of allowing patrons to purchase tickets at local businesses.

Council introduced McDivitt and Jones to Shawna Patterson, who has just taken on the role of acting director of Arts and Culture. Patterson said she would be happy to meet with them and figure out “what the future can look like.”
