Several incumbent members of Bracebridge council have confirmed they will seek another term in office as the 2026 municipal election campaign begins to take shape.
Current councillors Andrew Struthers, Debbie Vernon, Tatiana Sutherland and Barb McMurray have all announced their intentions to run for re-election in the Oct. 26 municipal election, giving voters an early look at several familiar names that will appear on the ballot this fall.
Struthers, who represents Macaulay Ward, is seeking another term after first being elected to council and successfully winning re-election in 2022. In that election, he defeated Stuart McKinnon to retain the ward seat.
Vernon, the current Bracebridge Ward councillor, is also seeking re-election. She won the ward seat in the 2022 municipal election, receiving the highest vote total among five candidates.
On the district council side, incumbent Tatiana Sutherland has announced she will seek another term representing Bracebridge at the District Municipality of Muskoka. Sutherland was elected to district council in 2022 alongside Don Smith and Brenda Rhodes, both of whom have announced they will seek re-election.
Oakley Ward councillor Barb McMurray has likewise confirmed she will run again. McMurray secured her seat in the last municipal election, defeating challenger Serge Valcourt.
The race for district council will also feature at least one new candidate. Christian McEachran Morin has announced he will run for a seat on District Council. Morin previously ran for Bracebridge Ward council in the 2022 election.
The announcements come as nominations continue to be filed across Bracebridge ahead of the Aug. 21 nomination deadline. Municipal elections across Ontario will be held on Oct. 26, with voters electing a mayor, town councillors, district councillors and school board trustees.
