It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death on Sunday, December 7, 2025, of Freda Joan Howell in her 98th year.
Freda was born in Bromptonville, Quebec, on March 6, 1928, to Arn and Edith Bilton. She moved to Toronto as a teenager but missed the countryside and her grandparents’ dairy farm. She met David Lloyd Howell at Royce Presbyterian Church Bible School, and they were married in 1950, settling into the Toronto suburb of Rexdale.
On retirement, Lloyd and Freda sold their home and moved to Lakehurst, Ontario, on Pigeon Lake, fulfilling their dream of returning to live in the countryside. Lloyd predeceased her by 32 years. At the age of 83, Freda moved to Muskoka to be closer to her daughter, living first in Bracebridge and, at 90, moving to the Muskoka Landing long-term care home.
Freda leaves behind her daughter , Terri Howell , and son, Ted Howell, and her son-in-law, Kim deLagran, her granddaughters Heather and Meghan deLagran, Shelbee Howell , and step granddaughter Angel.
She was the proud great-grandmother of Anaya, Brecken, Atli, and Fyfe Bowman and Benno delagran. Freda lived a life of love, giving generously of her time to many volunteer organizations, caring for two foster sons over almost 12 years, and keeping in touch with her many nieces and nephews and long-time friends.
