Bill Wogden

PGA of Ontario Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Born: Aug. 19, 1958

Bill played multiple sports growing up and his early success on the golf course included two Junior Club Championships and two Men’s Club Championships at Muskoka Sands Golf Club.

At Humber College, Bill graduated in business administration with a minor in golf management. While at college, Bill was a member of the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) gold medal-winning golf team in 1978.

Joining the PGA of Ontario in 1979, Bill’s first assistant professional role was at South Muskoka Curling and Golf Club in Bracebridge with head professional Ron Webb.

Bill was hired by professional Ben Kern (PGA of Ontario Hall of Fame Charter Class) to join the staff at The National Golf Club of Canada in Woodbridge. With Ben’s mentorship, Bill enjoyed a 10-year stay (1981-1990) and developed into a top player. During this time, Bill served four years on the PGA of Ontario Assistants’ Committee serving two years as treasurer and two years as president.

Royal Woodbine Golf Club hired Bill to be their inaugural head professional when the course opened in the fall of 1990.

In 1992, Bill moved to the Barrie Country Club as the head professional where he remained for 27 years until his retirement at the end of 2018.

Bill and the Barrie CC hosted the PGA of Ontario Zone Championship 12 times, including 10 years in a row from 2003 to 2012. Bill was actively involved with the local junior golf tour and served on multiple PGA of Ontario committees.

Bill was recognized as the PGA of Ontario and PGA of Canada Club Professional of the Year in 2008. Additional awards include the PGA of Ontario Class ‘A’ Professional of the Year in 1989, and the OCAA Golf Coach of the Year in 2021.

Bill earned individual victories on each of the PGA of Ontario’s Assistants’, Regular and Senior Tours, combined with two Pro-Pro, two Head Professional – Assistant Professional, and three Assistants’ Better Ball wins, giving Bill 20-plus PGA of Ontario victories. Bill represented Ontario six times in the Ontario-Quebec matches.

In retirement, Bill coaches the men’s and women’s golf teams at Georgian College, and continues to volunteer with the local junior golf tour.
