Gravenhurst council has adjusted its road repair schedule following an unexpected increase in a bid. In their recent meeting, the council unanimously decided to award road rehabilitation work for 2025 to Fowler Construction Company Ltd. at a negotiated tender price of $3.6 million, excluding HST.
The planned work will cover a four-kilometre stretch of Peninsula Road and a 3.8-kilometre section of Baseline Road. Town staff reported that the original tender from Fowler Construction was more than 20 percent above the available budget estimate set by the council.
Due to uncertainties around tariffs and taxes affecting potential bidders, the only viable option within budget constraints was to scale back the initially planned work. As a result, a 2.2-kilometre section of Riley Lake Road has been removed from the 2025 Roads Rehabilitation Tender.
Staff members have committed to exploring options within the year to enhance the remaining portion of Riley Lake Road.
Construction is expected to commence in mid-May, with substantial completion targeted for the end of August. During the construction phase, traffic may be reduced to one lane, and traffic control measures will be implemented where necessary.
