During their latest meeting, Gravenhurst Council reviewed the 2025 Final Tax Rate Bylaw Report and moved forward with its adoption.
Gravenhurst residents can expect to notice an average increase of 5.6 percent in property taxes for rural property owners and a 4.5 percent increase for urban property owners in their “all-in” 2025 property tax bill.
These adjustments differ slightly from the projected 5.4 percent increase that was outlined when the budget was initially approved.
For rural property owners, the larger-than-anticipated increase is mainly due to a significant rise in the waste management tax rate. Conversely, urban residential property owners will see a lower-than-expected increase, thanks to a decrease in the Sewer A tax rate, along with a modest rise in the Water A tax rate.
Overall, this results in an average increase of $58 for rural property owners and $59 for urban property owners, calculated per $100,000 of assessment from 2024 to 2025.
Deputy Treasurer Rob Rosilius explained in the report that the purpose of this bylaw is to establish the final tax levy for 2025.
After further discussion during the meeting, the council successfully passed the associated bylaw.
Tax rates are specified for various property classes, including residential, multi-residential, commercial, industrial, landfills, aggregate extraction, pipelines, farming, and managed forests.
