Gravenhurst council declares No Mow May

Council has approved a resolution put forth by Mayor Heidi Lorenz to implement “No Mow May,” as many other Ontario communities have successfully done, where residents hold off on cutting grass until June 1.

The resolution “aims to support crucial spring pollinators as they are seeking their first source of food, such as dandelions, found in spring.”

It also helps further “the goal of preventing disturbance of over-wintering insects and amphibians that may be burrowed or hiding in lawns and to help increase food sources to pollinators.”

Council approved the motion which instructs Town staff to research options and give recommendations as to how this program could be implemented in Gravenhurst.
