Gravenhurst council notes: Steamships surplus waived

Surplus obligation waived

Council has voted to waive the standard agreement the Town has with the Muskoka Steamship and Discovery Centre (MSDC). Typically, MSDC shares their operating surplus with the Town, as per the current Operating Agreement. However, the motion that passed will waive this for 2021 operations, on a one-time basis due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Twelfth Night returns to Wharf Gazebo

In her update to council, Deputy Mayor Lorenz said she had the privilege to watch Twelfth Night at the Gazebo Wharf. Lorenz said it was well-attended and it will return for another seven shows in late August to early September.

The production is put on by Timberbeast Productions and is an updated and localized version of the Shakespearean play.

It’s “set against the backdrop of Lake Muskoka and the century old steamships, this adaptation navigates the murky waters of loss, mistaken identity and the reclamation of self in post-war Gravenhurst,” according to the description of the play. Lorenz said an added bonus for attendees was watching the sunset during the performance.

The next council meeting is on August 9 at 3p.m. and can be viewed on the Town of Gravenhurst’s Youtube channel.
