Gravenhurst driver racks up two impaired convictions in a year

A 39-year-old Gravenhurst man pleaded guilty to his second impaired driving-realted conviction of the year in a Bracebridge court recently.

Samuel Asante pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.

Court heard that on Dec. 31. 2023, the Bracebridge OPP received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a car on Bethune Drive that was “all over the road,” and only driving 40 km/hr. The driver, Asante, was pulled over and blew readings of 290 mg of alcohol, more than triple the legal limit.

Court also heard that in March of 2024, Asante had pled guilty to impaired driving stemming from a November 2022 arrest in Peel.

For his latest conviction, he was sentenced to 15 days in jail, a two-year driving ban and a $2,500.
