Momentum continues to build for the Gravenhurst Health Hub project, with community donations pushing the fundraising total to over $900,000 of the $1.2 million needed to complete both phases of the development.
Bruce Hemphill, Chair of the Gravenhurst Health Hub Steering Committee, delivered the update at a Gravenhurst Probus meeting earlier this week, noting that fundraising progress has been so strong that the Cottage Country Family Health Team is now considering beginning the planning process for tendering construction contracts. Formal announcements are expected in the near future.
The project, located on the second floor of 5 Pineridge Gate, is being developed in two phases to allow construction to begin before full funding is secured. Once complete, the Health Hub is expected to significantly improve access to local healthcare services for Gravenhurst residents — half of whom currently do not have a local primary care provider.
In anticipation of the expansion, the Cottage Country Family Health Team is also planning a new wave of healthcare provider recruitment to serve the additional capacity the Health Hub will offer.
Fundraising efforts have been buoyed by a series of significant donations from local residents and community groups.
Rotarian Bob Jacob stepped up during a recent Rotary Club of Gravenhurst evening meeting when he surprised attendees with a $75,000 donation — adding to a previous $25,000 gift — bringing his total contribution to $100,000. The donation matches an earlier gift from John and Denise Cooper, who were credited by Jacob with “raising the bar” for community giving.
