The Town of Gravenhurst has been invited to submit a proposal to host the 2024 Ontario Heritage Conference.
During the latest Gravenhurst Town council meeting Coun. Pilger put forth a motion, explaining that Gravenhurst was approached to submit an application by the province.
Deputy Mayor Lorenz asked if estimated costs were provided, noting that in her past experience some of these events can end up being more pricey for the Town than expected and also if there would be outside help or if it would all be the responsibility of staff. Mayor Kelly replied that costing is provided, and that there would typically be 200 attendees and that the “Heritage Committee couldn’t do this without help” and that usually they would be allowed to bring in ‘associates’ from the community to form an associate committee.
“We would find out in full if a bid was successful, then the new council would decide to proceed or not after costing. I do believe it’s not revenue neutral.”
Council voted in favour of submitting an application.
The next Committee of the Whole meeting will be on December 20 after the new council has been formed following the upcoming municipal elections.
