Gravenhurst renews Indigenous Friendship Accord

During the most recent Gravenhurst Town council meeting, CAO Scott Lucas submitted a report recommending the renewal of The Muskoka Area Indigenous Leadership Table (MAILT) accord.

MAILT consists of over a dozen municipalities and has “been evolving over the years.” Lucas said that “The Friendship Accord solidifies and documents the mandate/values of the MAILT, while demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the relationship and all it offers the participants.”

Mayor Kelly said that from his perspective, “this has been one of the greatest things that has happened in trying to move the needle forward in understanding between the communities.”

All participating communities will be sent a draft accord to sign to demonstrate their commitment, so that “we can formalize this and continue the great work that is being done.”

Council voted to move forward with the draft accord.
