Gravenhurst tightens winter parking restrictions

A motion to amend the overnight winter parking bylaw was carried at the Dec. 20 Committee of the Whole meeting. T

The Manager of By-law Services proposed the amendment after it was “determined that additional information is required to enhance the enforceability of the by-law,” especially in regard to snow removal.

Melissa Halford, Director of Development Services said, “that the intent here was to tighten up the bylaw a little bit to help with enforcement in the downtown core…and that we have the proper enforcement tools if we have to use them.”

Halford noted that by-law has been “very pro-active this year and has gone on an information blitz, providing what we call ‘little love letters’ letting people know that they have a pass this time but as the snow comes, make sure your car is off the street. I thought this was a great approach so people weren’t caught off-guard.”

The motion to have a separate and stand-alone by-law to assist with the enforcement passed. This will ‘enhance’ the existing bylaw, which will include set fines approved through the Regional Senior Justice to regulate parking on the streets Gravenhurst between the months of Nov. 1 to April 30 from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
