From the Town of Gravenhurst:
Due to a mechanical issue with Centennial Centre’s generator we have moved the warming centre to the council chambers at the municipal office, 3-5 Pineridge Gate.
The council chambers will be available during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., until further notice.
People are welcome to stop by, warm up, recharge devices, and use the washrooms.
At the same time, the town is asking people to only travel if necessary.
If people must travel, please use extreme caution, and allow for extra time to reach destinations.
Yesterday, the District of Muskoka declared a state of emergency in response to the severe ice storm that swept through the area, causing widespread power outages, downed trees and power lines, and hazardous road conditions.
The declaration encompasses the Town of Gravenhurst and other lower-tier municipalities in the district.
Learn more about the declaration.
The town declared a significant weather event Saturday, prior to the worst of the storm, and this remains in place.
