Ontario’s Green Party leader was in town yesterday for a walkabout and to talk about everything from housing to public transportation.
Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario joined GPO Candidate for Parry-Sound Muskoka Matt Richter for a tour in Gravenhurst, beginning with an outdoor town hall at Lions Pavilion in Gravenhurst. Schreiner and Richter discussed the GPO’s recently launched Housing Strategy to build livable and affordable communities.
“Ontario is facing a housing affordability crisis,” Schreiner said. “People in Parry Sound-Muskoka deserve to have an affordable place to call home.”
“It’s getting harder and harder for people to find an affordable place to live. Ontario Greens have an ambitious and achievable plan to build communities that are affordable, connected and sustainable.”
Schreiner and Richter also stopped by a local community garden to discuss the importance of supporting local, healthy food and community spaces before visiting the Gravenhurst train station to highlight the need for affordable and accessible transit in the region.
“We need to urgently bring back passenger rail to Muskoka,” Richter said. “It’s not good enough to punt it down the line like the current government is doing. It’s a matter of accessibility as well as an important step to combat the climate emergency by reducing transport emissions.”
Mike Schreiner’s visit to Parry-Sound Muskoka was part of the Summer Days Leader’s Tour. His next stop will be today in Dufferin-Caledon.
