Gryphons Capture GBSSA Title After Stunning Comeback, Head to OFSAA as Champions and Hosts

The Gravenhurst High School Gryphons are heading to OFSAA with more than a host berth—they’re going as GBSSA champions.

The senior boys’ volleyball team delivered a dramatic four-set victory over Le Caron High School on Friday to claim the GBSSA Boys’ A Volleyball Championship. The win didn’t come easily. After dropping the first set and falling behind 13–7 in the second, the Gryphons mounted an impressive comeback to take the set 28–26. From there, they controlled the momentum, sweeping the next two sets to secure the title and hoist the GBSSA plaque.

The full match, along with all Gryphons volleyball action, is available on the GHS Gryphons YouTube channel, where fans will also be able to watch the team’s OFSAA games later this month.

The victory comes just days before Gravenhurst High School hosts the 2025 OFSAA Boys A Volleyball Championship, taking place November 20–22 across Muskoka. The event will bring student-athletes from across Ontario to compete for provincial gold.

While GHS automatically qualified for OFSAA as the host team, Friday’s win means the Gryphons enter the tournament as conference champions as well. The championship will be centred at Gravenhurst High School, with additional games scheduled at Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, Huntsville High School, and St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School.

The tournament is being organized by GHS teachers Corry Ziorjen and Diana Clarke. Clarke, who also coaches the Gryphons, will lead her team onto the home court next week as they look to make an impact on the provincial stage.

Full event details—including participating teams as they qualify, schedules, sponsors, and updates—are available at ofsaa.on.ca/championship/volleyball-boys-a, and fans can follow the tournament on Instagram at @ofsaavb2025.
