A judge in Bracebridge recently described a case as akin to “something out of a weird movie.”
During a recent appearance, Aidan Mabee of Gravenhurst pled guilty to mischief in a Bracebridge courtroom.
The charges stemmed from a Feb. 22 incident, wherein police were called to Muskoka Lakes Township after a report of a broken vehicle window.
Court heard that earlier in the day there was an altercation between Mabee and another man, with whom he had some history.
The defence said Mabee felt he was being chased in a car by the other man and crashed his vehicle into a ditch while trying to get away. He also threw a hatchet through the back of the victim’s window, although the exact sequence of events was not clear.
Justice Raymond Williams said the car chases and hatchet throwing sounded like something out of a movie.
He granted Mabee a conditional discharge, ordered him to pay $774 restitution and serve 12 months probation.
